Offline Pages – Use JW.org Without an Internet Connection
With the JW.org website being recently redesigned, we have been encouraged to direct people to it while in the field ministry. One method might be to show them the site on our iPad. But what if your iPad doesn’t have cellular data and, as a result, no internet connection while in the field? If you don’t have a cellular capable iPad but still want to show jw.org to people you meet in field service, Offline Pages Pro offers a nice way to do this. The app allows you to download local copies of websites for use when you don’t have an internet connection. All pictures and formatting is preserved. What’s really nice is that you can set the number of pages to save. So you can monitor the amount of space taken up on your iPad or iPod touch. The video below will show you how to use the iPad app Offline Pages Pro to download the website before you head out. Using this app, you’ll be able to use the site with no internet connection.
Offline Pages Pro is just one of our favorite iPhone and iPad apps for Jehovah’s Witnesses. We’ve collected all of our favorites here. And if you’d like to see more of our top app selections in different categories, just head on over to our Best Apps Series.

Hello Brother. This looks like a great app. I have a question. For the jw.org.English that you had already saved and then used to show us how a downloaded site would look like, did you use the same settings as in your demo? 200 pages, 3 links deep,….? Also, could you tell us about how many GB that would be? Were you able to click on every single link of those “bible questions answered” topics? That would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hello! Good questions. Right now this is the set-up that I found works best for me. You can see it takes up about 382 MB. But you can mess around with the settings to see what works best for you. All the Bible Questions Answered links work in my set-up.

Have you been able to use this app to download Watchtower Online Library in English?
June 1, 2013 @ 5:37 am
Hello Brother,
I have tried the settings that you posted 2 months ago & I am not getting all the bible questions answered. I have even tried 500 pages.
Could you please post the settings that are working for you at the moment, because my Internet Download limit is stopping me from continuing at try different settings.
Thank you

Hello! It may be a problem with your “Maximum Depth” of links. Try to increase this or set it to “Unlimited”. That may do the trick for you! You could also contact the developer of the app at http://offlinepag.es/ His email address is under the post entitled “A Call to Beta Testers”
June 11, 2013 @ 6:51 am
I have the links set at unlimited. I have even tried 1100 pages.
The problem is the entire Hebrew Scriptures of the online bible is saved.
Is there anyway I can stop the app from doing this?

Hello, I’m not sure about setting some pages to download and some to not download. That’s a great question to ask the developer! You can try to get a hold of him at http://offlinepag.es/ His email address is under the post entitled “A Call to Beta Testers”

I just have one question the stuff I download dose it say in the app or dose it take up some of the memory from my phone

Hi, I’m glad that worked out for you. I’m not sure which app you’re referring to but both Documents and Offline Pages take up storage space on your device. You can check how much space apps are taking up in your Settings app under General -> Usage.

I seem to have a problem. I have an ipad mini I downloaded the app (I thought successfully) and chose the exact same settings as you suggested, then when I turned on the airplane mode to see if it worked without the internet, a box popped up that said that Offline Pages Pro crashed while downloading. The icon for the app appears, but when I click on it, it goes to the home page, but no further without telling me I’m off-line. That’s the whole idea. What do I do now? Am I going to be charged for this? Or do I try again and get charged twice for this app? What if it fails again?

howdy brother, I tried to download this app, but it crashed in the process. the icon appears on my ipad, but when I try to use it , I only get as far as the homepage. what do I do now? do I e-mail the developer or call Mastercard, so that they don’t charge me for an app that doesn’t work? I put in all the settings you suggested. I really think this would be useful, especially since we are supposed to show any interested people how jw.org works next month, and I only have wi-fi. Please help, I’m not tech-savvy as you probably guessed.

Hi! I’m sorry the app is not working for you yet. Please try restarting your device by doing the process described here: http://mobile.ipadinsight.com/all/ipad-tips-tricks-ipad-tips-how-to-hard-reboot-the-ipad-when-it-freezes-up#1 Then try to open the Offline Pages Pro app again.
July 21, 2014 @ 3:49 pm
Hi brother, I tried your suggestion. With the airplane mode on, and wi-fi off, I opened the app and it did the same thing: when I click the icon left of the search bar, the inbox appears, which has two listings, not one, which is only what I need.for “Jehovah’s Witnesses–Offici…”, with a small number ’10’ in a box to the right of each, whatever that means. Anyway, when I click on the top one, it goes to our jw home page, but when I click on ‘publications,’ for example, the box appears which says it cannot open page, ‘the internet connection appears to be offline.’ And that’s as far as I get. Maybe my own internet connection in the house here was too weak at the time, because it seems to have downloaded enough information that allows me to get to the jw.org home page, but that’s maybe where it quit. My ipad itself didn’t freeze up. So now what?
July 22, 2014 @ 11:07 am
Hi, please take a look at these screenshots and make sure your Offline Pages Pro settings look like what I have here. Then make sure you leave the app open and allow enough time for all the pages to download.

July 22, 2014 @ 11:40 am
Yep, it’s me again. Today I made sure the internet connection was on, opened the app, and the little white box appeared which says, ‘ We’re sorry. Offline Pages had a problem and crashed….” I can’t even send an error report cause it closes in less than 3 seconds Everytime I try to open it now, the box (we’re sorry, blah, blah) appears and then it closes itself almost right away. The screen is there, except the icon to the right of the search bar is grey, not highlighted, so it wouldn’t respond when I clicked on it.

I’m sorry you’re still having problems with Offline Pages Pro. Please contact the developers. Their email can be found on this page: http://blog.offlinepag.es/getting-support/
If that doesn’t work you can request a refund from Apple (they handle refunds) here: https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action

I was just curious if this app would allow one to save for example a Wt study article from WOL with all links to scriptures (coming up in floating boxes) and allow this article to open in PDF Expert as a PDF so it could be highlighted on? Ever since Equipped went out I’ve been looking for something comparable but nothing has really fit the bill for me. So far I like the WOL version of the articles the best but would love a feature to highlight on paragraphs. Really hope the branch comes out with a full screen article with floating scriptural links instead of splitting the screen to only view one language of translation option on JW Library…
May 4, 2015 @ 8:18 am
Hello. Unfortunately I have not found any app as versatile as Equipd. And I don’t think Offline Pages will do what you’re looking for. But I am very optimistic that the brothers developing JW Library will make the upcoming annotation and highlighting tools very satisfying. There is a suggestion box for the JW Library app. I put in a humble request for features like Equipd had. Here is link to making a suggestion: https://www.formstack.com/forms/watchtower-jw_library

Best app for marking WT is Documents by Readle. You can link it thru Drop BOx to your PC and continue to mark it up in OKular a free PDF reader/editor. Also Okular good to insert translated questions etc when working in a foreign language group.

Totally agree about documents: http://appchasers.com/2013/12/12/video-how-to-get-organized-for-the-meetings-and-field-ministry-with-documents-for-readdle/

Hi Brothers: I would like to put a technical challenge to you all for a real need in most countries (of the 234 JW in). Typically Internet is expensive and most brothers cant afford to download or their devices have minimal storage capacity. I have been looking for a solution to this. The above article is part way toward this. My solution for thousands of congregations around the world would be to have a single PC (or a pad) at the Kingdom Hall, the JW.ORG and Broadcast websites are downloaded and stored off-line, similar to the article above. (also HTTrack for linux) But now it would be great if with a wifi or bluetooth connection publishers be able to come to the hall wifi zone and download any JW content not through the Internet but download off the cached data stored on the Kingdom Hall PC or device. This would hugely increase their theocratic experience unavailable to them at present. Thousands of brothers and sisters could benefit in developing countries. Look forward to your help. DG

While in my area, at times have no internet access at all.
Has anyone been successfully been able to use offline pages the download the Publications index.
I don’ t want all the reference materials, I just want the subject index and the scriptures index and where to find the reference materials.
I have iSilo but the iSilo index is outback of date and don’t include the most recent publications . After finding where to look for information I can then use either iSilo and downloaded PDF’s to find the related materials.
Any help would be appreciated as I am currently in a area with super fast internet access.
