Do you have a lot of movies stored on your Mac? If so you might be frustrated with the default way those files are displayed in the Finder window. Instead of the generic AVI or MOV icon, wouldn’t it be nice to have the movie poster displayed? And wouldn’t it be nice to have an automatic way to easily make this change to all your movie files? Enter MovieIcon available in the Mac App Store.
MovieIcon has a simple interface, and thats a good thing. All you want to do is drag files or folders into the MovieIcon window. The the app will automatically search the internet for artwork related to the title of your file. You can scroll through multiple images until you find the one you like, and when you do, you can hit apply and watch that old generic icon transform into the movie artwork. MovieIcon comes packed with custom movie artwork too, which can be applied to home video files.
The entire process is quick and easy to do manually. But if you want even more automation, go into the settings and turn on Folder Search and Apply images automatically. Then you can drag any folder into MovieIcon and it will apply all the images it comes across. However, if you want more control over which artwork is chosen, we suggest the manual method. Of note, MovieIcon will also embed artwork into your file’s metadata. This makes it possible for viewing the art in iTunes, on your iOS devices and on AppleTV.
The video below shows how MovieIcon works. Its a great app for any movie lover who wants their movies to look good even when not watching them!
