Convert Our Christian Life and Ministry Meeting Workbook from ePub to Interactive PDF
If you enjoy studying the Our Christian Life and Ministry Meeting Workbook on your iPad, you probably do so with iBooks. This might be because its the default app that Apple recommends when you download an ePub document from Safari. While iBooks is great for highlighting and adding notes to ePubs, it doesn’t allow for text annotation or easy syncing of files between devices.
If you want to have better organizational control of your Meeting Workbooks, not to mention better annotation abilities, you’re better off using an app like Documents [review here], PDF Expert [review here], or GoodReader. The problem with these apps is that they don’t give you the interactive scripture links like iBooks provides. But there is a way to get the best of both worlds!
The File Converter is an app that will do just that. It will convert Our Christian Life and Ministry ePub documents into interactive PDFs while preserving the scriptural links. This allows you to study the Meeting Workbook like you do in iBooks, but harnessing the syncing and annotation powers of Readdle’s apps or GoodReader. This method can be used on any ePubs you’d like to study, not just the Meeting Workbooks. Watchtower and Awake issues and other books can be converted too. The following video will walk you through how to do it.
This is the workflow I currently use. I download an ePub, convert it into a PDF. Then I throw it into my Dropbox folder within Documents by Readdle. That one PDF now gets automatically placed on each of my devices (even my computer). It also shoots a copy automatically to my wife’s iPhone and iPad. A one-time download automatically gets each of our devices up to date. Then, if we highlight the file, those annotations get synced to the other devices too. The app that makes all of this possible is called The File Converter (link below). You can also see more of the app’s features in this video review.
You may also like to store and annotate your interactive PDF in these apps:

Would this work for a document like the interactive regional convention program we had this last summer? I did buy the app you recommended, but this app is less expensive and I’d like to have a couple of options when asked about it. Thanks.

I followed your instructions to convert the workbook from ePub to PDFs. When I tried to see a scripture the program would freeze. The same thing happened when I tried to go to a reference link in the watchtower. Can you provide more info. I used File Converter and Document. Thanks for your help.

Thank you! I downloaded all these apps and it works GREAT! I am so excited to make annotations, highlights, notes and have it sync with all my devices. I just tested it across all my applications including my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone. AMAZING! I am so excited to have this new option for making my studying so much more meaningful.

Hi, when I converted the workbook file and tried to open in Documents, the Documents app doesn’t open the file. I see it there but tapping on it does nothing.
Suggestions?

Hello. I’m sorry to hear you’re having problems with it. Have you tried opening the file in another app besides Documents? That way we can narrow down if its a Documents problem.

Hello Bro. Meister
While trying to watch the video on converting my publications to interactive, for some reason my iPad screen goes black, and I can’t see, but I can here what you are saying. Do you have any idea what may be causing this? Please help, it will truly be appreciated.

Hi how are you? Have you reset your iPad recently. I’d try that first. http://youtu.be/n2_KuxZHhAU

Yes I did reset it, and that did no good. Any one else have any suggestions I might be able to use. Again, I have tried to watch the video about how to have the Watchtower and Meeting Book automatically download on my iPad, and it disappears after it starts..

Former CO of many years. Computer literate, but old man. Not senile. Following instructions to a T, when I finally have file up in documents … scriptural links seem to work. However clicking a Wt link causes all the scriptural verses to show on screen, but not the text from the supposed magazine reference. Done repeatedly… over and again same results. Go to Web site, select … meetings… workbook … save as ePub … convert in file converter (takes very long time) to pdf document … send to Documents … retrieve results. wallah! File there but links to our publications do not produce the reference

I ask again why does the link take me to the scripture text cited but not the wt or publication referenced

Hi Jerry, thanks for the question. This method was promoted before JW Library app gained highlighting and note taking abilities. Now that those features are in the JW Library app, this method of converting ePub to PDF doesn’t seem as useful. But I’d like to hear your use case. Thanks!

I’m not sure what your asking for. I have given the details of my experience. I continue with the problem. Looking for a solution

Hi Jerry. I’m just wondering why you are using this method over using JW Library. Once I know your workflow I might be able to provide more feedback. Thanks!

Using the week of Nov 13-19, in Wt Library, if I select the reference to ia 114 22-23, I am not able to highlight anything in the reference. I cannot make any notes either. Same is true if I try to study Cong Bible Study. No option to highlight or underline answers

Thanks for any and all help. I took the suggestion to go back to Wt Library. Found the Key I believe to highlight text. Happy about that! Is there any way to make personal notes, like when preparing and highlighting certain material for the CBS lesson. This was one of the caveats over the other approach

Thanks for your patience while I try to look for a solution to your original problem. With regards to taking notes using JW Library, here is a video about it: http://appchasers.com/2017/05/09/how-to-use-the-jw-library-app-part-5-notes-and-backup/
