Video: How to Backup iPhone Apps that have been Removed from the App Store
With the removal of Equipd from the App Store on December 31, 2014, many who arleady purchased it are wondering how to backup the app. Backing up apps is a handy way to restore them later if they are removed from the App Store and accidentally get deleted from your iPhone. This is also a good idea if you get a new iPhone and want to install an app that is no longer available.
This video walks through how to do just that with the Bible study aid app Equipd (tap here for our video review of Equipd). Here we look at a couple different scenarios. First, how to backup an app before it is removed from the App Store. Then we show you how to backup an app that has already been removed from the App Store but that you still have on your iPhone. This method works for both iPhone and iPad apps.
Take a look at the video and let us know if you have any questions in the comments below. Looking for more apps like Equipd? Check out our Best Apps for Jehovah’s Witnesses guide. I just backed up my Equipd via iTunes & usb/lightning cable; and then restored to an upgraded iPad. This was my first time switching devices with iOS. Perhaps this is answered in your video (which I haven’t watched yet because I’m about to get ready for the meeting.)…but I’m wondering if there is any way around having to re-cache all the publications/bibles/languages in the library (bibles, books, magazines)? Maybe I missed a step somewhere, but I was hoping that could be avoided. It is so time-consuming. I even did the email backup & restore in Equipd, but to no avail. Thanks in advance for your input & videos.

Hi! I’m happy you were able to restore the app! Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a way to automatically recache the files though. Anyone else on here know?

It is possible without recache. But you need additional software. I’m using iMazing (formerly DiskAid). It is available for MAC and PC (unfortunately not for free, but worth it). You can use it for backup or copying files directly into apps – and more. And you can backup apps seperately – with or without the app data. This is working perfectly. If you reinstall the saved app all your data is still there – no need to redownload! Works great with Equipd!

I also recommend to backup the *.ipa file to some cloud location (google drive, dropbox, box.net, skydrive, etc) in case that your computer breaks, you’ll have always a backup file.

Hi !
If Someone can share his backup or can help me to get this app because I have deleted my 3.4.9 version by mistake and I have no backup :’/
Contact me : songurdak55@hotmail.fr
Tkanks in advance 🙂

Hello, unfortunately apps have Apple IDs tagged to them to prevent sharing. So an app one person bought cannot be installed on another person’s device.

Hello !
Tanks for the fast reply ! 😮
Finally I found a old backup but it’s also the 3.4.9 version :/
Can I take back my ID to put in a >3.5 version ( suposed I found one ) ?
Sorry for my bad English , I’m from France ^^
December 25, 2015 @ 8:43 am
Hello, first restore the 3.4.9 version onto your device. Then on your device, the app should update to the latest version by itself once connected to the App Store.

I did it… still in 3.4.9 :’/
I will try to find someone who have files and not in IOS9 because Apple lock backup of App since IOS 9.
A brother had the 3.5.4 but his app crash at start. So disappointed ^^”

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I used it to backup Equipd v3.5.2, but I’m having trouble backing up v3.5.6 from my iPad to iTunes on my pc, so my pc is stuck at v3.5.2. Has Apple changed something to prevent “transfer purchases to library”? Any updated suggestions on how to backup to pc?

Hi. Well it looks like the problem was on my end and I needed to change something in my code. The videos should be working fine now. Please let me know if not. Thanks for alerting me to this problem!
