VLC for iOS – Continuous loop Caleb and Sophia videos on your iPhone or iPad
Since 2012 Caleb and Sophia have been winning the hearts of young and old alike. More importantly they have been helping viewers draw ever closer to their creator Jehovah. As of this writing there are 18 Become Jehovah’s Friend videos and 16 Animated Songs staring the pair. Additionally there are a number of Whiteboard Animations aimed at helping adolescence stand up to the pressures they face daily. Jehovah truly cares for young ones!
Many of these videos can be downloaded into the JW Library app as shown in this video. But there are quite a few of us, including parents, who would like to have these videos play countinuously on our iPhone and iPad. That is, when one video ends another one will begin playing in an endless loop. This is possible, but unfortunately not in the JW Library app. To do this, you’ll need another great video app called VLC for iOS. The following video will show you how to endlessly play Caleb and Sophia videos on your iPhone or iPad.
If you already have the jw.org videos downloaded to your iPad, they can sent directly to the VLC app using the “Open In…” command. For example, we’ve previously recommended storing the videos in the great app called Documents by Readdle. From Documents you can tap “Edit” and select the videos one-by-one. Then select “Open In…” and choose VLC. The video will now be added the to VLC app.
VLC can also download the videos directly from the internet too. Just use Safari to find the video you’d like from jw.org or tv.jw.org. Where it says “Download” press and hold on the resolution you’d like (240p, 360p, 480p, 720p – the higher the number, the more space it will take on your device). When the menu appears, tap “Copy”. Now head over to the VLC app. Tap on the cone icon in the upper left corner. Then select “Download”. Here you will see the link you copied has already been inserted into the field. Now you just need to tap “Download” under link. Once the video is downloaded, tap the cone icon again and then tap “All Files”. Repeat these steps for each video you’d like to add to VLC.
Once your video is in VLC, you’ll want to group them into folders. Only videos in a folder will play in a continuous loop. Select the “Edit” button in the upper right. Now choose each video you’d like to include and tap the folder icon. If this is your first folder, you’ll be asked to name it. If you’ve already created folders, you’ll first be prompted to choose one of the existing folders. Or create a new folder by tapping the folder icon again.
To loop the videos, start playing on and then tap the icon with two arrows facing opposite directions. Tapping once will play the videos through one time. Tapping twice will enable endless loop mode. That’s it!
